IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 George Russell
Since Formula 1 firmly planted its flag on American soil—with races in Austin, Miami, and Las Vegas—the sport has experienced a remarkable surge in visibility and cultural relevance stateside. What was once a niche interest has become a mainstream obsession, and this is particularly true in the USA, where fans are really starting to take note. Obviously, there is a great synergy between watches and auto racing, as evidenced by the many brands sponsoring teams and events. IWC is one such brand. Last year, IWC went deep into its involvement with auto racing via the movie F1, where its watches played an honest role. It also has long sponsored teams on today’s circuit, including Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team. Now, in cooperation with driver George Russell, the two unveil two new Pilot’s watches just before the start of the new F1 season in early March.

The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 George Russell and Pilot’s Watch Automatic 41 George Russell are crafted in high-tech black zirconium oxide ceramic and punctuated with Russell’s signature blue, a color long associated with the driver and echoed in his helmet design. That vivid blue appears on the dial printing, Super-LumiNova® filled hands, and matching rubber straps, creating a striking contrast against the stealthy black ceramic cases.

Technically, these watches are pure IWC. The chronograph is powered by the manufacture automatic self-winding caliber 69380, operating at 4 Hz with a 46-hour power reserve, while the automatic model houses the caliber 32112 with a robust five-day (120-hour) power reserve thanks to IWC’s double-pawl winding system. Both feature soft-iron inner cases for magnetic field protection, sapphire crystals secured against pressure drops, and titanium case backs engraved with Russell’s racing number, 63.

Each model is limited to 1,063 pieces—a nod to the driver’s identity rather than an arbitrary figure. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 George Russell watch retails for $12,900. The Pilot’s Watch Automatic George Russell (with three hands and date) retails for $9,200.
IWC’s relationship with Formula 1 extends far beyond a single driver. Since 2013, the brand has been a key partner of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team, aligning its Pilot’s Watches with the team’s high-tech ethos and PETRONAS’ distinctive teal-blue visual language.

Half a dozen years later, in 2019, George Russell entered Formula One. After joining the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One team in 2022, he went on to secure five Grand Prix victories for the team. His partnership with IWC on these newest watches underscores the shared values of precision, excellence and perfect timing.
