Tutima Glashutte unveils automatic Sky watches that offer color, style and a real value proposition.
Did anyone notice that German watch brand Tutima, built on an aviation timepiece history (and moving into more complex watches once it re-established its own Manufacture in the Saxony region), has aptly named its newest timepiece “Sky?”
I noticed, not just because of the correlation to its pilot’s watch roots, but also because the highly affordable Sky watches — retailing for $1,750 — bring together attributes that offer a sky-high value proposition.

Value Proposition of the Tutima Sky Watches
Crafted in stainless steel, the 41mm round case features curved and angled lugs and a supple mesh bracelet that is incredibly comfortable on the wrist. Powered by the Tutima Caliber 330 automatic movement, the watch displays hours, minutes an seconds, as well as day and date at 3:00 on the dial. Incredibly legible, the watch offers luminous hand and stick markers with dots above them that have luminous coating, as well. The screwed down onion crown makes setting a breeze and makes the watch water resistant to 10ATM.

What makes these watches even more attractive, though, are their vibrant colors. The dials are a degrade’ finish, lighter in the center and turning darker at the outer edges. Forest green, regal blue and bordeaux red dials are at once visually arresting and yet boldly individualistic.
The dial colors and design of these Flieger watches recall the spirit of the 1970’s but with a decidedly modern silhouette. The watches are equipped with domed antireflective sapphire crystals for easy reading without glare. A sapphire crystal allows for viewing of the German-made movement with an 18-karat gold gold seal on the rotor. When fully wound, the watch offers 38 hours of power reserve.

My Impressions of the Tutima Sky Watches
Recently, I got to go hands on with the Sky watches and I have to say that I really like them. As mentioned, they offer a quality/value proposition that only has me debating between red and blue. The mesh bracelet is nicely crafted and generous enough for a thin or wider wrist. The colors are attractive from across a crowded room, and even though they are a bit daring, they are every bit Flieger. I love the transparent sapphire caseback that holds its own secret: top-notch German craftsmanship as witnessed by the gold rotor.
