When it comes to timepieces, some brands like to play it safe. Maybe a gray dial or even rich blue. Sometimes a burgundy or green dial will do. But purple? Nomos Glashutte is not afraid to take a risk. The brand unveils its plum Tetra today — a deft blend of color and shape that defies the norm. This is a direction the brand usually likes to take: daring and different.
The Tetra watch is a particular favorite of Nomos followers thanks to the generous square case, stepped edges and angular typeface. It has been a beloved member of the Nomos line for more than 25 years. The new Tetra Plum watch measures 29.5mm by 29.5mm and feature a rich plum colored dial with plum subsidiary dials for the seconds and for the patented power reserve indicator. The hands, numerals and markers are all silver to match the steel case and offer a beautifully balanced appeal.
Tetra plum is powered by the hand-wound Nomos caliber DUW 4301, which also features the Nomos proprietary swing-system escapement. Designed and developed in-house, the escapement is tiny and light as a feather, but that single invention in-house enables the brand to become fully integrated and independent. The Nomos Swing System escapement has been produced since 2014. It first powered the Metro and now the Tetra, as well as other collections.
So, does color matter in a luxury watch? I think so. Everyone is drawn to beauty and color, so why not on the wrist. Nomos has a surefire winner here, especially given the price: $2,780.
