Tiffany & Co. Debuts Solar-Powered Rope Watch, Inspired By Schlumberger Icons

Tiffany & Co. has unveiled an unexpected innovation in its high-jewelry watchmaking: the Rope watch, a solar-powered timepiece inspired by the iconic designs of legendary house designer Jean Schlumberger. Seamlessly fusing timeless elegance with contemporary sustainability, this new creation brings a fresh perspective to a signature Tiffany motif.

The Rope design—instantly recognizable by its twisted gold forms—was originally conceived by Schlumberger in the mid-20th century. Drawing from his childhood in Alsace, France, where his family was in the textile business, Schlumberger translated braids, tassels, and cords into sumptuous jewelry. Now, this motif finds new life in the form of a refined, solar-powered wristwatch.

Unlike traditional quartz or mechanical models, the Rope watch features a movement developed in collaboration with Swiss movement maker La Joux-Perret that runs entirely on solar energy. Light passes through a semi-transparent dial—available in white mother-of-pearl or black lacquer—to power the high-performance movement. Once fully charged, the watch will run for up to eight months without additional exposure to light. Even a brief two-minute exposure to sunlight is enough to energize the timepiece for a full 24 hours.

Visually, the Rope watch is both opulent and restrained. Available in two sizes—27mm and 33mm—it is crafted entirely in 18-karat yellow gold. The bezel features two finely braided gold rope rings encircling a band of round brilliant diamonds. In a subtle nod to the overall theme, the minute hand itself is fashioned in a twisted gold shape. Every detail, down to the engraved sunburst on the caseback and a single brilliant-cut diamond beside it, reflects Tiffany’s commitment to storytelling through design.

Each version is paired with a luxurious alligator strap: a bold black for the black-dial model, and Tiffany Blue®—a robin’s-egg-inspired shade—for the white mother-of-pearl version. The 27mm model is adorned with 38 diamonds totaling 0.52 carats and retails for $16,000, while the 33mm edition features 39 diamonds weighing 0.90 carats and is priced at $22,000.
