Parmigiani Fleurier is known for its Tonda timepieces, among others, that are classic and timeless. The brand regularly innovates and its newest Tonda PF Automatic 36mm watches are a great example of embracing the vision of smaller watches. The new somewhat compact-sized colorful watches are offered in two versions: two-tone steel and 18-karat rose gold, solid 18-karat rose gold with a ruby (almost amethyst hued) dial. The unveiling of a two-tone watch in the Tonda PF collection is a first for the brand.
Heretofore, the smallest Tonda PF Automatic was a 40mm size, and that was unveiled in 2022 to cater to a more unisex audience. That size, with diamond indexes and a rose gold case, won the Women’s Watch prize at last year’s Grand Prix d’ Horlogerie de Genève. Now, the new versions come in 4mm smaller and are definitely designed for a slender wrist.
The news 36mm two-tone version, Tonda PF Automatic Steel Gold Sand Grey, boasts a case made of stainless steel, a finely knurled 18-karat rose gold bezel with smooth top and satin-finished rose gold vertical side links for the integrated polished stainless steel bracelet that tapers from larger at the case to slimmer at the folding clasp closure. For this watch, the markers are applied 18-karat gold and the dial is a sandy grey with a hand-guilloche finish. This version retails for $26,200.
The second model, the Tonda PF 36mm Deep Ruby, boasts a solid gold case. The rich ruby dial also features a hand guilloche’ pattern, but the indices are diamonds. The watch is finished with a matching colored alligator strap. This version sells for $40,400.
Both watches forgo the date window that is found in the larger 40mm size for a clean and elegant look. The watches are powered by the PF770 automatic movement consisting of 179 parts and offering 60 hours of power reserve. The case back of the watch is equipped with a sapphire crystal inset for viewing of the movement. The Tonda PF Automatic 36mm watches are water resistant to 100 meters.
Honestly, I am not a 36mm wearer. I like a bigger watch, but I can say that each of these versions are alluring. I love the two-tone version because I have always been a sucker for two-tone bracelet watches. I love the ruby version because – well – the color is just so impactful. On a journalist’s salary, I can’t afford either, so I don’t have to make that choice.
