In an extraordinary partnership that bridges the realms of cinema and horology, Hamilton Watch has teamed up with Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures to craft a bespoke “Desert Watch” for Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated film, “Dune: Part Two.” This collaboration goes beyond the ordinary, taking inspiration from the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen (the fictional people in the original novel Dune), on the planet of Arrakis, seeking revenge against those who destroyed his family while facing a pivotal choice that could determine the fate of the known universe.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve and based on Frank Herbert’s novel, “Dune: Part Two” explores the intricate tapestry of love, revenge, and the struggle to prevent a cataclysmic future. The film features an ensemble cast led by Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, and Zendaya as Chani.
Known for its historic presence in Hollywood, with watches featured in over 500 major films since 1932, Hamilton has taken a unique approach in crafting the “Desert Watch” for Denis Villeneuve’s cinematic masterpiece. Unlike previous collaborations, the watchmaking artisans at Hamilton worked closely with the film’s prop master, Doug Harlocker, to design a device that not only defies traditional watch norms but also seamlessly integrates into the otherworldly universe of “Dune.” The result is the exclusive “Desert Watch,” a hardwearing, distinctly Fremen-inspired timepiece that encapsulates the essence of the film’s rich lore.
In addition to the cinematic collaboration, Hamilton is launching two limited-edition watches this month, coinciding with the release of “Dune: Part Two.” The Hamilton Ventura XXL Bright Dune Limited Edition and the Ventura Edge Dune Limited Edition watches feature the same beloved Ventura case, but with different features.
The XXL Bright Dune is a 52×46.6mm stainless steel case with a black PVD coating, exuding a bold and futuristic aesthetic. The black dial, illuminated in blue when activated, pays homage to the iconic blue eyes of the Fremen, capturing the essence of Arrakis.
The brass hour, minute, and second hands, treated with an “or noir” finish, add a touch of luxury to the timepiece. Powered by a quartz movement, the watch ensures precision and reliability. The black rubber strap with a pin buckle provides comfort and durability, making it suitable for both everyday wear and interstellar adventures.
With only 3000 pieces available of the limited-edition Ventura XXL Bright Dune – sold in a commemorative packaging inspired by the film – the watch retails for $1,750.
The Ventura Edge Dune is slightly smaller – measuring 51 X47.2mm. Crafted in steel with a black dial and blue indications, this watch boasts a black PVD coating on the case and is created in a limited edition of 2000 pieces. It retails for $2,500.
