A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Daymatic in Honeygold
Watch lovers and collectors attuned to the rhythms of German manufacture A. Lange & Söhne know that December 7 is no ordinary date. It marks two milestones that define the brand’s past and present. On December 7, 1845, founder Ferdinand Adolph Lange laid the cornerstone of his workshop in Glashütte, planting the seed for German precision watchmaking. Then, 145 years later, on December 7, 1990—just after German reunification—his great-grandson Walter Lange revived the family legacy, setting in motion the modern era of A. Lange & Söhne. It is a date the brand honors only with special releases. Yesterday, on December 7, 2025, the maison unveiled a particularly striking tribute: the new Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold.

A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Daymatic in Honeygold with a diameter of 39.5mm.
The Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold watch, created in a limited edition of just 250 pieces, marries one of Lange’s most recognizable designs with its own proprietary gold alloy. Crafted in 750 HoneyGold®, the case radiates a warm, subtle glow that pairs exquisitely with the rich chocolate-brown dial—a hue that feels both luxurious and deeply contemporary. While the Daymatic was a fan favorite of the brand, it seems to have slipped out of the company’s offerings in recent years.
The Lange 1 Daymatic, first introduced in 2010, is the automatic counterpart to the iconic Lange 1. While it preserves the distinctive off-center dial layout that helped the Lange 1 become a design legend, the Daymatic offers a clever twist: the entire display is subtly mirrored. The hours and minutes sit to the right, while the subsidiary seconds and the signature oversized date take their place on the left. In another point of differentiation, the power-reserve indicator of the manual-wind Lange 1 gives way here to a retrograde day-of-week display, positioned on the left arc of the dial—both practical and visually dynamic.

The A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Daymatic in Honeygold is powered by the self-winding L021.1 manufacture movement.
In this new Honeygold iteration (Ref. 320.050) , the elements come together with striking harmony. The 39.5 mm case is elegantly proportioned at just 10.4 mm thick, ensuring it slides easily beneath a cuff. Lange has lightly refined the lugs and bezel to enhance the sense of lightness, while the 925 silver dial showcases nuanced depth: an inset hour-and-minute circle adds dimensionality, and the outsize date appears in crisp white numerals against a matching brown background. Complementing the warm tones is a taupe, hand-stitched alligator strap secured by a solid honey-gold buckle.
Inside, the watch houses the self-winding L021.1 manufacture movement, a caliber — celebrated for its traditional architecture and high efficiency. A large central rotor—its 21-karat gold center embossed with the A. Lange & Söhne signature and weighted with a platinum mass—spans the movement’s full diameter, ensuring optimal winding. Its interplay of warm gold, cool platinum, and blued screws offers visual drama through the sapphire caseback. Once fully wound, the watch delivers a 50-hour power reserve.
As expected of Lange, the movement is a showcase of artisanal mastery: screwed gold chatons, Glashütte ribbing, blued screws, and a hand-engraved balance cock underscore the brand’s dedication to traditional finishing. The balance spring is crafted in-house, and the movement—as with every A. Lange & Sohne caliber—is assembled twice. To me, typically not a lover of brown, this rare color combination from the brand exudes a sophisticated atmosphere — one charged with depth and warmth.

Every component inside the A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold watch is meticulously finished by hand to exacting standards.
