World Watch Day is on 10.10 (2025)
For 40 years, I’ve covered watches— writing about news, events, launches, people and the evolving culture of horology. And yet, until now, there hasn’t been a universal day to celebrate watchmaking itself. Enter World Watch Day, launching digitally today, October 10, 2025, with the goal of shining a global spotlight on watchmaking as both craft and culture.
Why 10.10? Beyond being a favorite time-setting for watch photography, it’s a quiet symbol of balance and beauty on the dial. Some experts say setting the hands on a watch to 10:10 is the perfect way to showcase a watch’s logo (usually at 12:00) without obstruction; others simply argue that it looks harmonious and visually pleasing—a subtle nod to the artistry at the heart of horology. Either way, it made perfect sense for this new non-profit organization dedicated to horology, art and culture to adopt the name 10.10.
This year’s first edition is digital-first, streaming online across time zones and inviting contributions from anyone with a passion for watches. Participants are encouraged to share content with the hashtag #WorldWatchDay, whether it’s a collector’s prized timepiece, a story about master watchmakers, or an insight into the science, culture, and art of watchmaking.
For this inaugural year, I’m proud to be an individual member myself, joining fellow enthusiasts, professionals, and organizations in celebrating everything that makes watchmaking special—from centuries-old traditions to modern innovations. I also encourage my readers and followers to post their watchmaking content today using the hashtag #WorldWatchDay.
World Watch Day is organized by the World Watch Day Association, a non-profit dedicated to promoting the creations, heritage, and culture of watchmaking worldwide. Its founding members include heavyweights such as the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, the Foundation of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, the Horological Society of New York, Europa Star, Le Figaro, and others. The association is designed to grow and evolve, welcoming individuals, brands, media, and clubs to participate in this inclusive celebration.
At any rate, if you are a watch lover and planning to post today, October 10, about a watch or a watch-related story, use the hashtag #WorldWatchDay. Let’s see if it starts a new trend and adds popularity to the organization.
