Louis Vuitton Escale au Mont Fuji Pocket Watch
Louis Vuitton has always been a brand rooted in art and craftsmanship since its founding in 1854. What began with exquisitely engineered trunks and luggage evolved into a universe of refined accessories that celebrate savoir-faire at the highest level. Compared to that long-standing heritage, the House’s venture into watchmaking is relatively recent. Yet its newest pièce unique pocket watch from the Escales Autour du Monde collection—the Escale au Mont Fuji—resoundingly demonstrates not only technical mastery, but a deeply cultivated understanding of decorative arts and mechanical complexity.
Conceived and crafted entirely at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton in Geneva, the Escale au Mont Fuji is both mechanical marvel and miniature theater. The dial captures a serene spring dawn in Japan, with Mount Fuji rising against a pastel sky of pinks and blues.

The Louis Vuitton Escale au Mont Fuji Pocket Watch is a piece unique.
Four animated elements bring the scene to life: a rotating compass rose at 12 o’clock; a wooden fishing boat gliding across shimmering water; Louis Vuitton trunks that open to reveal Monogram flowers; and gently swaying Sakura blossoms framing the composition. Steering the boat is Ebisu, the joyful Japanese deity of prosperity, rendered in gold with astonishing micro-engraved detail.
The Métiers d’Art work is staggering. Master engravers sculpted the dial’s appliqués—including the fisherman, boat, blossoms, and even minute facial expressions—using custom-made tools fashioned specifically for this project. Engraving alone (for the case and the sculptural elements, including miniature three-dimensional cherry blossoms) required approximately 160 hours. Enamel artistry demanded a further 300 hours and incorporated Grand Feu, champlevé, paillonné, and miniature enamel techniques.

Nearly 1,000 hours of painting, enameling, engraving and finishing went into the making of the Louis Vuitton Escale au Mont Fuji Pocket Watch.
Thirty-three pastel hues were hand-ground and applied in successive layers, with some 40 kiln firings—each posing the risk of cracking or color distortion. The river’s shimmer was achieved using a single leaf of silver beneath translucent enamel, an especially perilous technique given silver’s reactivity during firing. A final fondant glaze imparts luminous depth, transforming the dial into a painterly landscape of remarkable dimensionality.
Mechanically, the watch is equally formidable. The manually wound LFT AU14.03 caliber comprises 561 components and integrates a minute repeater, tourbillon, and an automata module powering the four animations. The movement offers an eight-day power reserve and beats at 3 Hz.

The movement is as much a work of art as the sculptures and paintings thanks to its highly complicated functions.
Finishing is uncompromising: 700 hand-beveled inner angles, mirror-polished screws and gongs, hand-engraved bridges, Côtes de Genève striping, and flame-blued hands. Even hidden components are finished to haute horlogerie standards, underscoring a philosophy where nothing is overlooked.
Finally, the 18-karat white gold case, whose sides are engraved with motifs that echo the dial story, is meticulously set with 60 baguettes of rainbow colored sapphires weighing 3.74 carats. Requiring more than 1,000 hours of combined artisanal labor, the Escale au Mont Fuji transcends conventional watchmaking and represents a convergence of travel, artistry, and mechanical virtuosity.

The Louis Vuitton Escale au Mont Fuji Pocket Watch celebrates the beauty and splendor of the Mount Fuji area.
