It’s fall – a wonderful time for the great outdoors. But don’t go out in the great wilderness without this Aspen One Chronograph … with built-in compass. This is one great timepiece. It’s hefty in size but not overbearing on the wrist. It is offered in steel and in gold, but the rose gold version gets me every time. This brand is relatively young, unveiled to the world just a few years ago when a Dutch Company acquired the worldwide rights to use the Aspen name for a new collection — Aspen Fine Jewelry and Watches. The Aspen One watch pays tribute to the grand city of Aspen and the Ajax Mountain. Each model is produced in a limited-edition of 3,214 pieces — matching the elevation from the base to the top of this landmark mountain of Aspen. Each Aspen One watch is engraved with the words: Elevation 3214’, and then the individual number of the elevation of the individual watch. Every Aspen One watch is Swiss-made, and features an orange number 4 (the color for prosperity for the Indians and for safety in the mountains) on the dial, and is sold with a choice of straps that can be changed quickly thanks to a patented technique. What make the watch so cool and different (and large) is the fact that with the push of the orange button on the left side of the watch, the hunter-type case back open to reveal a stunning disk compass whose ring displays the name of Ajax Mountain and important places surrounding it. Also when the caseback is open, the automatic movement of the watch is visible via the sapphire caseback on the right. Each Aspen One watch retails for approximately $45,000 – a small price to pay for not getting lost in the wilderness, and for looking so cool and gadgety. It sure would have helped that couple in the MA corn maze this weekend that had to call 911 to help them find their way out!
