I would guess tradition mainly – the case is patterned after an old Accutron design that had the crown in this position. Also some people feel that the a 4 o’clock positioned crown makes the watch more comfortable.

Are the lug holes in different places on the strap models vs the bracelets?

And more importantly, would you be able to get a bracelet model, like the 97B134, and put a strap on it if you wanted to?
