Upcoming Antiquorum Auction Sees Some True Rare Beauties

On September 30, Antiquorum’s “Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces” auction in New York will feature an incredible selection of timepieces. Not only will see Richard Mille watches made in collaboration with Rafael Nadel and Yohan Blake, but also there are some rare Patek Philippe, Jaeger-LeCoultre and A. Lange & Sohne watches, and some specialty pieces in history including several Corum coin watches commemorating, among others, US presidents Johnson and Nixon. A true highlight of the auction: some superb gem-set beauties. Among the dazzling diamond and gemstone watches to be auctioned: Chopard Ref. 4240 Imperiale White Gold diamond & Sapphire Watch (Est: $200,000 -$300,000), and a Breguet Ref 5238 Skeleton Chronograph White Gold & Diamonds (Est: $120,000 – 220,000).

Would You Pay $400,000 for a Nine-Year-Old Patek Philippe?

Christie’s Important Watches Auction yesterday in New York yielded nearly $8.8 million in sales, further underscoring the thriving collector watch market. The top lot, Lot 366, in the auction was a 2008 Patek Philippe Reference 5033 platinum tonneau minute repeater with annual calendar. Sold with original certificate, the watch went to a private American collector who paid $401,000 – more than $20,000 above the expected sale price. Got to love those Patek collectors! The second top-selling lot, Lot 163, also went for way above its expected price. That watch was an 18-karat white gold and diamond bracelet Piaget, Ref. 40011 that had been created in 2002. Antiquorum Only Watch 2013 Sneak Peek
